COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M soccer team ended the spring season with a perfect 5-0 record after defeating Southern Methodist, 4-0, in the Aggies' final exhibition game of 2012.
The reigning Big 12 Champions won in shutout style in each of their five spring matches, outscoring opponents 10-0.
The Aggies' first goal came with 22:10 left in the first half on a pass from junior Chelsea Jones. Jones' ball found the feet of Meghan Streight, who netted the game winner. Jones also had a goal of her own, collecting a blocked shot by freshman Allie Bailey to give the Aggies their final 4-0 lead in the second period.
In the 39th minute, freshman Shea Groom assisted a goal by classmate Bianca Brinson as A&M took a 2-0 lead into the half.
Freshman Katie Perry, who had scored in three of four games this spring, netted number four just over eight minutes into the second period. Bailey took the ball at 18 yards from goal on the right side of the box and crossed a pass to Perry as she charged through defenders and whizzed a shot past the SMU goalkeeper.
Aggie freshman keeper Jordan Day and Streight split time in goal, each making two saves. The Aggies outshot SMU, 10-to-16 and held a 12-to-4 shots on goal advantage.
The Aggies return to action this fall as they enter the Southeastern Conference. To learn more about Texas A&M soccer, log on to AggieAthletics.com or follow @AggieSoccer on Twitter.
