Soccer Hosts Baylor in Exhibition Match
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Big 12 Champion Texas A&M soccer team hosts former conference regional rival Baylor Saturday in a 7 p.m. friendly match at Ellis Field.
The exhibition match, A&M's fourth of the season, is FREE to the public.
The Aggies defeated the Bears, 2-1 in the conference opener this fall. A Chelsea Jones goal in the 88th minute earned the win for A&M. Senior Merritt Mathias had the assist, weaving through defenders along the end line before slotting a pass to Jones. A header by freshman Annie Kunz off of a pass by junior Beth West gave the Aggies their first goal of the game.
Baylor finished the season with a 14-3-3 (5-2-1 Big 12) record in the Big 12 Tournament quarterfinals, tying with Missouri before falling, 4-3, in a penalty kick shootout. Dana Larsen led the team with 24 points on 11 goals and two assists. Courtney Seelhorst spent 2020:25 in goal, making 63 saves for 10 shutouts while allowing 18 goals.
The No. 12 (NCAA Final) Aggies made their 17th straight NCAA Tournament appearance in 2011 after winning a 12th-and-final Big 12 title at the conference tournament. The team ended 2011 in the NCAA Second Round with a 16-6-2 record.
This spring, A&M is 3-0. All of the Aggies' spring matches are FREE to the public. To learn more about Texas A&M soccer, log on to AggieAthletics.com or follow @AggieSoccer on Twitter.
