COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Sophomore Chelsea Jones netted a lone goal as the Big 12 Champion Texas A&M soccer team defeated Texas State in a 1-0 shutout, Saturday at the Aggie Soccer Stadium. The team closed its undefeated spring season with the match.

"Even though we only scored once, I liked the way our players created attacking and scoring situations," head coach G Guerrieri said. "Texas State's goalkeepers played very well and made some nice saves."

Jones' goal came in the 83rd minute of the match after 18 shots on goal by the Aggies, including three that connected with the crossbar. It was assisted by sophomore Raven Tatum. Texas State was unable to get a shot on frame during the match.

"Several of our players really stepped it up this spring," Guerrieri said. "Chelsea Jones was outstanding in all of our games, as was Kat Bartley."

The Aggies also put up a 14-0 corner kick ratio. Junior Merritt Mathias kicked 11 of them, while sophomore Catalina Clavijo had two and Jones kicked one.

The match closed out a strong spring season for A&M, who was undefeated in all seven exhibition matches. The team posted three shutouts in the last four games.

"The team made some nice steps forward this spring," Guerrieri said. "We are even more excited about what we can do this fall when even more talent arrives."

Ten high school standouts have signed national letters of intent and will join the Aggie soccer roster in the fall. For more information on Texas A&M soccer, log onto AggieAthletics.com.
