Texas A&M's 29-24 road victory over top-ranked Alabama last Saturday made the Aggies the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week, as selected by the Football Writers Association All-America Committee on Monday.

It was the Aggies' highest ranked road victory in program history, supplanting a win over No. 6 Penn State in State College in 1979. The win was A&M's second-ever victory over the top-ranked team in the Associated Press Top 25. A&M's previous win over the nation's No. 1 team happened on the same weekend in November 10 years ago when the Aggies' beat No. 1 Oklahoma 30-26 at Kyle Field.

Another similarity of the Aggies' two wins over the AP No. 1 was the presence of Kevin Sumlin on both sidelines. The current Texas A&M head coach was calling the offensive shots for the 2002 Aggies that rolled up 404 total yards in their win over the Sooners.

It was the fourth National Team of the Week honors for the Aggies, who were also honored in 2010 (win over No. 9 Nebraska, 9-6), 2006 (win over No. 11 Texas, 12-7) and 2002 (win over No. 1 Oklahoma, 30-26).

The victory improved the Aggies' record in their first season in the Southeastern Conference to 8-2 overall and 5-2 in conference play. It vaulted the Aggies into the top 10 in the Bowl Championship Series standings, the Associated Press poll and the USA Today coaches poll. A&M stands No. 8 in the BCS, No. 9 in the AP poll and No. 10 in the coaches poll.
