Matthews, Ogbuehi named to Lombardi watch list
HOUSTON – A pair of Texas A&M offensive linemen were named to the watch list for the 2013 Rotary Lombardi Award, which is given annually to college football’s top lineman or linebacker.
Making the elite list were the Aggies’ offensive tackles, senior Jake Matthews (Missouri City, Texas) and junior Cedric Ogbuehi (Allen, Texas). The 44th Rotary Lombardi Award will be held on December 11, 2013 at the Wortham Center in Houston, Texas. It was the third watch list for Matthews, who was also named a candidate for the Outland Trophy and the Maxwell Award.
Matthews and Ogbuehi are veterans on the Aggies’ offensive front, but both will be in new spots in 2013. Matthews will shift from right tackle to left tackle to replace 2012 Outland Trophy winner Luke Joeckel, while Ogbuehi moved from guard to right tackle. The pair played a key role in the Aggies’ 2012 offensive success when the unit led the Southeastern Conference in all four major statistical categories. The Aggies became the first team in SEC history to surpass the 7,000-yard barrier in total offense.
