Aggies in Fifth at Seminole Match Up
Tallahassee, Fla.-The No. 14 Texas A&M women's golf team is in fifth place after the first round of the Seminole Match Up, hosted by Florida State.
The Aggies finished the first round of the tournament with a recorded score of 296 (+8). Georgia leads the tournament with a score of 290 (+2), followed by Tennessee (+3), Florida State (+7), and Furman (+7). Former Big 12 rival Oklahoma trails the Aggies with a score of 298 (+10), while UTSA (+11), Notre Dame (+12), Michigan (+16), Kansas (+22), UNCG (+26) and UNC Wilmington (+35) follow consecutively.
"The team played well with the exception of three holes," Head Coach Trelle McCombs said after the round. "We lost our composure for a couple holes on the back nine, but at the end of the day we played pretty well."
Senior Sarah Beth Davis and junior Katerina Ruzickova are both tied in 12th place with a score of 73 (+1). Davis birdied two holes while Ruzickova birdied three. Junior Natalie Reeves follows closely behind with a score of 74 (+2). Rounding out the A&M contingency, junior Chelsea Mocio and senior Mary Michael Maggio recorded scores of 78 (+4) and 80 (+6), respectively.
"The back nine played significantly harder than the front nine," McCombs added. "We left a couple strokes out there on the back nine, but found a way to get a couple back. Individually and as a team we are in position to make a run these next two rounds."
The second round of the tournament will begin Saturday at 7:30a.m. (CT). The Aggies are paired with Florida State and will start teeing off from the 10th hole at 7:30a.m. (CT). Live scoring for the event can be found at GolfStat.com.
