Maggio Named Big 12 Golfer of the Month

IRVING, Texas - Texas A&M's Mary Michael Maggio was named Big 12 Women's Golfer of the Month for April, the conference office announced Wednesday.

From Conway, Ark., Maggio earned her first Big 12 monthly award and the first by an Aggie since Julia Boland received the honor in November of 2009.

Fresh off her first collegiate win at last week's Big 12 Championship in Lawrence, Kan., Maggio improved her score by four strokes each day (77-73-69). By firing the lowest round on Sunday, she was one of only two players in the field to break par at the event. It was her lowest round of the season and the second-lowest single-round score in a conference championship by an Aggie in program history.

Maggio became just the fourth A&M player to win a Big 12 individual title. In addition, the junior led the Big 12 field and paced the Aggies with a 73.0 stroke average, while her 54-hole total of 219 was her best of the spring.
