COLLEGE STATION --- Former LSU standout Mary Michael Maggio has transferred to the Texas A&M women's golf team and will be eligible to compete for the Aggies in 2011-12, A&M head coach Trelle McCombs announced.

A solid contributor for the Tigers the last two seasons, Maggio will have two seasons of eligibility at Texas A&M. Maggio, from Conway, Ark., compiled a 75.4 scoring average while playing in 40 rounds in 14 tournaments from 2009-11. Playing on A&M's home course at the NCAA Fall Preview in 2010, Maggio tied for 13th in the individual at three-under par, and turned in a five-under 67 in the second round.

"'Triple' is an immediate impact player," McCombs said. "She has been someone who I've watched play many, many times. She is the type of player that can take it deep and change the day for the team. We are very excited to have 'Triple' join our program, not only because of her play but also because she is a great person."

The Aggies played in the same tournament as Maggio and the Tigers five times in 2010-11 -- at the NCAA Fall Preview, the Tar Heel Invitational, the Central District Invitational, the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate and the LSU Tiger Classic. As a sophomore, Maggio compiled a 74.7 scoring average and she had seven rounds at par or under in eight tournaments.

An American Junior Golf Association All-American in high school, Maggio was ranked No. 23 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Rankings and ninth in the Class of 2009 in the AJGA Polo Rankings. In 42 high school matches, Maggio was medalist 37 times and runner-up in the other five tournaments. She was a four-time all-state selection and state champion in 2006 and 2007. She led Conway High School to the conference championships all four years.
