Farmers Even Maroon & White Series with 4-3 Win
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Farmers erased a three-run deficit and Logan Nottebrok provided the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead the Farmers to a 4-3 win over the Plowboys in Game Two of the Aggie Baseball Maroon & White Series on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park on Thursday evening. The victory evened the best-of-three series at 1-1.
Tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh, Ryne Birk drew a leadoff walk, stole second base and moved to third when the catcher’s throw bounced into centerfield. After JB Moss drew a base on balls, Cole Lankford was intentionally walked to load the bases. Nottebrok pounded an offering from Ryan Hendrix into rightfield to drive in Birk for the walk-off win.
The Plowboys drew first blood in the top of the fifth. With one out, Jonathan Moroney singled to centerfield and Nick Banks singled through the right side to put runners on the corners. Ronnie Gideon laced a single through the left side of the infield to plate Moroney and with two outs, Blake Allemand singled to right field to knock in Banks for the 2-0 lead.
The Plowboys’ advantage ballooned to 3-0 in the top of the sixth. GR Hinsley reached second base on a fielding error by third baseman Hunter Melton to lead off the frame, moved to third on an infield single by Mitchell Nau and scored on a bunt single by Moroney.
The Farmers tied the game at 3-3 with three runs in the home half of the sixth. Nottebrook singled through the left side of the infield to start the inning. A single to rightfield by Melton and a throwing error by Allemand on the throw back to the infield put two runners in scoring position. Nottebrok scored on a wild pitch and Troy Stein plated Melton with a wall-banger to right centerfield for an RBI triple. With one out, Patrick McLendon put down a sacrifice bunt to score Stein with the equalizer.
Nottebrok and Melton each registered two hits for the Farmers. Nottebrok went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Melton went 2-for-3 with one double and one run.
Moroney was the lone Plowboy with multiple hits, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Both starting pitchers worked four shutout innings. Corey Ray allowed just one hit in 4.0 innings of work for the Farmers. Grayson Long scattered two hits and two walks while striking out four for the Plowboys.
