STARKVILLE, Miss. – Texas A&M freshman Paula Deheza has been named to the six-member Southeastern Conference Women’s Tennis Championship all-tournament team, the league office announced today.

The Bolivia native helped the Aggies clinch the doubles point in both matches as fourth-ranked and No. 2 seed Texas A&M went 1-1 and advanced to the semifinals before falling to second-ranked and No. 3 seed Florida, which went on to win the tournament with a 4-0 victory over third-ranked and No. 1 seed Georgia in the championship match.

"Anyone who saw Paula play this weekend, specifically in her doubles match against Florida, was treated to some of the most skillful and cunning display of volleying feel and finesse that I have  seen in college tennis in a while,” A&M head coach Howard Joffe said. “Her efforts helped us secure both doubles points and consequently put us in an excellent position to advance."

In the quarterfinal match against 19th-ranked Auburn, Deheza and her twin sister and doubles partner, Ines, defeated Jen Pfeifler and Paulina Schippers, 8-5, at the No. 3 line to give the Aggies a 1-0 lead. A&M went on to defeat the Tigers, 4-0, to advance to the semifinals.

The Dehezas also were the deciding factor in the doubles point against No. 2 Florida. After the teams had split at the No. 1 and 2 positions, the A&M duo broke away from a 3-3 tie to defeat the Gators’ Danielle Collins and Brianna Morgan, 8-4. It was the fourth consecutive match in which the Dehezas clinched the doubles point, and it also marked their fifth consecutive victory as they improved to 15-5 in dual matches.

Texas A&M (21-3) now awaits the announcement of the 64-team NCAA Championship field, to be revealed April 30. The Aggies are expected to make their 18th tournament appearance, including their 14th consecutive appearance.
