Volunteer Diving Coach Lerew Coaches Celebrities on “Splash”
Lerew, who is in her fourth year at Texas A&M, helped teach 10 celebrities to compete in regulation platform and springboard diving "at dizzying heights in front a weekly poolside audience." Splash is modeled after the Dutch hit show ‘Sterren Springen' with similar versions already having been produced in Great Britain and France. A show is also planned for Australia.
According to ABC.com, the celebrities competing in Splash are NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, comedian Louie Anderson, former Drake & Josh star Drake Bell, Chelsea Lately talk show sidekick Chuy Bravo, extreme snow-skiier Rory Bushfield, former Baywatch star Nicole Eggert, former The Cosby Show cast member Keshia Knight Pulliam, Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, 2012 Miss Alabama Katherine Webb and The Girls Next Door star Kendra Wilkinson. Serving as hosts of Splash each week will be veteran actor Joey Lawrence and ESPN2's SportsNation co-host Charissa Thompson.
Each week the celebrities will look fear in the face as they leap off the 10-meter high dive, pair off to complete synchronized stunts, and flip, twist and spin into the depths of the pool below. The celebs are being trained by a top-notch coaching staff that includes Olympians and Olympic coaches. Led by four-time Olympic champion Greg Louganis, the coaching staff also includes Lerew, 2012 U.S. Olympic diver Cassidy Krug, four-time Olympic coach and SoCal Divers coach Scott Reich, and Rose Bowl Aquatics coach Hunter Shafer.
Each dive will be critiqued by the judges, London Olympic U.S. Gold medalist David Boudia and Australian Olympic athlete and USA Dive Team director Steve Foley.
Lerew, the wife of Aggie diving coach Jay Lerew, is an accomplished diver and coach in her own right. Lerew was an All-America diver at Florida State and a two-time Canadian Olympian. Prior to joining the A&M staff, she was a U.S. National Team coach and a two-time U.S. Junior National Coach of the Year.
