Another American, NCAA Record for Larson
HOUSTON --- Texas A&M junior Breeja Larson broke her second American and NCAA record in two days with a sizzling 200-yard breaststroke performance in the morning prelim session of the University of Houston's Phill Hansel Invitational.
Larson, a gold medalist for Team USA at the 2012 Olympic Games, posted a jaw-dropping 2:04.48 in the 200 breast prelims to shave nearly two-tenths of a second off the old record of 2:04.75 set by USC's Rebecca Soni in Federal Way, Wash., in 2009. She will attempt to lower the record even more in the evening finals at 6 p.m.
In Friday's finals session, Larson lowered her own American and NCAA record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 57.53. She took nearly two-tenths of a second off her old record of 57.71, which was set while winning the 2012 NCAA crown.
