ALPHARETTA, Ga. - The No. 10 Texas A&M men's golf team completed its first day at the PING/Golfweek Preview on Sunday and sits in a tie for 13th after one round.
"I'm pretty disappointed in the way we finished today," Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. "After 13 holes we were leading the golf tournament, sitting one-under par and really playing pretty solid golf, but we finished 15-over on our last five holes and dropped from first to near the bottom. The way we finished today was pretty discouraging."
Senior Cameron Peck turned in the Aggies' best round of the day by finishing in a tie for 26th with a two-over par 72, but carded bogies on four of his final five holes after birdies earlier in the round on #2, #7 and #10. Junior Johannes Veerman was just a shot back of Peck with a 73 to end the round in a tie for 35th.
"We've got 36 holes left and we're going to try to move up the leaderboard as best we can," Higgins added. "This is not the kind of course that lends itself to making up a bunch of shots so we're going to have to play fantastic golf the next two days just to have a good tournament."
