No. 15 Texas A&M Tennis Defeats UT-Arlington, 7-0
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M senior John Lewis and junior Niall Angus set the tone early with a dominating 8-0 win at the No. 3 doubles line, and their teammates followed the lead, shutting out the UT-Arlington Mavericks (1-6) with a 7-0 victory. The victory was a good start to the day for the Aggies (8-5), with another match coming up at 4:30 p.m. against the Abilene Christian Wildcats (8-4) at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.
A&M secured the doubles point with all three tandems winning their matches. The No. 25 doubles pairing of Junior Ore and Jackson Withrow clinched the doubles point from the No. 1 court with an 8-5 victory, and senior co-captains Colin Hoover and Alexis Klegou finished soon after from the No. 2 position, winning 8-5 as well.
Hoover and Ore both made quick work of their singles opponents, winning 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 2 and 3 lines, respectively. Redshirt freshman Jackson Withrow secured the victory for the Aggies with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at the No. 5 singles line. Lewis and redshirt freshman Jordan Szabo finished quickly thereafter at the No. 4 and No. 6 lines with 6-4, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-4 wins. No. 30 Klegou struggled early, but finished strong and secured the shutout for the Aggies with a win at the No. 1 line, 4-6, 6-4, 10-2.
The win marked the 42nd consecutive home victory for the Aggies, an all-time school record for any sport.
