No. 15 Aggies Host Twinbill on Saturday
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The No. 15-ranked Texas A&M men's tennis team will host a tennis twinbill on Saturday, Mar. 3 at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center with UTA facing the Aggies at 12 noon and Abilene Christian following at 4:30 p.m.
"This is a great opportunity to get our whole team some playing time in our doubleheader on Saturday," Aggie head coach Steve Denton said. "This keeps everyone involved and gives (associate head coach) Bob (McKinley) and I an opportunity to continue to evaluate players in a real match situation. This is also a great opportunity to improve our game before we hit the most challenging part of our non-conference schedule."
After the Saturday doubleheader, the Aggies will head north to face the country's second-ranked team Ohio State in Columbus (Mar. 9) and then in Champaign, Illinois, to face the University of Illinois (Mar. 11), currently ranked No. 18. The next home match for the Aggies will be Thursday, Mar. 15 when the three-time defending national champion USC Trojans, who are currently ranked No. 1 in the country, come to Aggieland for a 6 p.m. match.
The highest ranked singles player for the Aggies is senior co-captain Alexis Klegou, who is ranked No. 30 in the nation. The top-ranked doubles tandem is sophomore Junior Ore and freshman Jackson Withrow who are ranked No. 25 in the land.
The Aggies are ranked No. 15 in the latest ITA national rankings and bring a 7-5 record into the weekend. UTA brings a 1-5 record into Saturday's match with the Aggies. The most recent match was a close, 4-3 loss to Nicholls State. Abilene Christian
Abilene Christian has a 7-4 record and is currently ranked No. 6 in the Division II polls and will face the University of Incarnate Word in a match on Friday before coming to Aggieland on Saturday.
