Aggies Continue Road Swing at Fresno State
Live scoring of the match will be available at AggieAthletics.com.
The No. 31 Aggies are 2-1 on the young season but have not played since defeating LSU, 5-2, on Feb. 5 in Baton Rouge, La.
"The start of the season has been a little strange in the since that after we got up and running, we were off last weekend because we were not fortunate enough to qualify for the National Indoors," A&M first-year coach Howard Joffe said. "On that basis, it has been somewhat of a herky-jerky start. That being said, the last two weeks since we played LSU, the girls have worked exceptionally hard in their practices, in the gym, in their individual instruction, and so it is very exciting for me to see how they will perform. It will be exciting to see how we end up playing and also how we compete in very different circumstances - the slow courts here in California and the indoor courts at Washington in a couple of days. That is the unknown, but I know the girls have put in the work."
A&M junior Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar, No. 14 in the ITA singles rankings released today, and senior Lauren Santacroce are both undefeated in singles and enter the Fresno State match with identical 3-0 records. Junior Wen Sun is 2-1 and ranked No. 86 in the most recent singles rankings.
Fresno State is 2-4 after falling at No. 34 Saint Mary's, 5-2, on Sunday. The loss ended a two-match winning streak by the Bulldogs. FSU won at No. 2 and 3 doubles to win the doubles point against the Gaels and then got a victory at No. 1 singles where then-29th-ranked Marianne Jodoin defeated No. 82 Catherine Isip, 6-3, 6-3. Jodoin enters the A&M match ranked No. 49 in singles.
The Bulldogs are 1-0 in home matches, having defeated unranked Hawaii 5-2 in their home opener on Feb. 11.
A&M is 3-2 in the all-time series against the Bulldogs and has won the last two meetings. Last year, A&M defeated FSU, 6-1, at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.
A&M concludes its road swing Sunday at No. 27 Washington in Seattle before playing its home opener on Friday, Feb. 24 against Rice. First serve against the Owls has been changed to 1:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
