The NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills Program has been developed and implemented at Texas A&M through the support of the University, the NCAA, and the Division 1A Athletic Directors. The Champs Program was developed to provide student-athletes with a support system that will assist them through the many transitions of college, help prepare them for the professional world, and at the same time provide opportunities to make meaningful contributions to the community.

The program has been designed with a great deal of care in mind for Texas A&M student-athletes so that they will get the most out of their educational opportunities, excel athletically, develop personally, discover personal rewards from community service, and to explore career development.

The five components of the Champs Program are:

  • Academic Excellence
  • Athletic Excellence
  • Personal Development
  • Community Service
  • Career Development

Some of the programs that comprise the Champs Life Skills program at Texas A&M University include the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Aggie Athletes Involved (AAI), the Champs Awards Banquet, Career Services, Champs 101 - "Winning at Life" course, educational workshops presented to teams, and the Aggie Cup.

Many of the resources that support growth of the Champs Program on the Texas A&M campus have been in place for a number of years. Still, other programs have been specifically developed to address the five critical components for Texas A&M's student-athletes' personal development.

In short, the Champs Program at Texas A&M has been developed to prepare student-athletes for the most important game - the game of life.
