BRYAN, Texas – The No. 9 Texas A&M Equestrian team fell 10-9 to No. 6 Georgia, Saturday at the Brazos County Expo Complex.

With the loss, the Aggies fall to 2-5 overall, and 1-3 in Southeastern Conference meets. The Bulldogs climb to 7-2 overall, and 3-1 in SEC competition. Despite the loss, the Aggies won two events to Georgia’s one, with the teams splitting horsemanship. In SEC action, A&M’s losses have come by a combined two points—two narrow one-point losses and one on a tiebreaker.

“It didn’t come out in our favor,” said Head Coach Tana McKay. “We still have some things we need to clean up. This is our first meet back from a long break, and there were some rusty spots. We had some really good rides, so I was proud of a lot of the girls. As with anything, you have to be able to make improvements, and we had a couple of big mistakes that you can’t make when you are playing a team like Georgia.”

The meet opened with equitation over fences in the North Arena. After falling down 2-0, the Aggies rallied for a 3-2 victory in the discipline. Marlena Parker took most outstanding player honors as she defeated Georgia’s Meg O’Mara 87-85.

“I was really proud of Marlena’s ride,” said Linzy Woolf, associate head coach. “Z is a tough draw and a tough horse. She put in one of the quietest, clean rounds I have ever seen her do. I am very happy with her ride today.”

In horsemanship, Georgia once again took a 2-0 lead before Texas A&M came back to earn a 2-2 split. Logan Pluhar and Rachel Lucht each won a point for the Aggies, and Molli Jacobs’ score of 77 preserved the tie in the event.

The Bulldogs claimed a 4-1 win in equitation on the flat. Marlena Parker won the lone point for the Aggies, her second of the day, when she defeated Georgia’s Caitlyn Francis 79-78.

Entering reining, Georgia held an 8-6 lead. The Aggies won the event 3-2, but Claudia Spreng clinched the win for Georgia on the next to last ride of the meet. Laura Sumrall, Ashley Dotson and Ashley Skold each won points for the Aggies.

The Aggies are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 15 when they travel to Auburn, Ala. to face the Tigers in another SEC meet. To learn more about Texas A&M equestrian, log on to AggieAthletics.com and follow @AggieEquestrian on Twitter.
