COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 8 Texas A&M equestrian team added freshman Gabrielle Ploth and sophomore Lauren Uhrich to its roster, head coach Tana McKay announced.

Ploth (Conroe, Texas) and Uhrich (Falls City, Wash.) tried out for the team earlier this fall and were recently selected to join the team for the 2013-14 season.

“I am looking forward to having both Lauren and Gabby on our team,” McKay said. “Lauren had quite a bit of success on the Quarter Horse circuit, and Gabby is a talented hunt seat rider. They will both be a great addition to our squad.”

A biomedical engineering major, Ploth attended Oak Ridge High School and trained with her mother, Lisa Nelson. She helped her Zone 7 squad to a Team Gold at Pony Finals for jumpers and will ride for the equitation on the flat team with the Aggies.

Uhrich, who will ride for the horsemanship team at Texas A&M, began riding at the age of six through 4-H shows before advancing to the Quarter Horse circuit. She competed primarily in the northwest, but also showed at larger competitions such as the Scottsdale Classic and the American Quarter Horse Youth Association (AQHYA) World Show. Uhrich is majoring in business management and trained with Mike and May Edwards of Monroe, Wash.

The eighth-ranked Aggies (1-1) host No. 3 South Carolina (4-1, 0-1 SEC) today at the Brazos County Expo Complex, beginning at 11 a.m. The meet is Texas A&M’s first Southeastern Conference competition of the season.
