Nel advances to 3m dive final at World Champs
Representing Australia, Nel placed sixth in the semifinals with a score of 440.05, and will dive in the three-meter final on Friday. Nel, who lettered at A&M from 2009-2012, trailed Kai Qin and Chong He of China, Evgeny Kuznetsov of Russia, Yahel Castillo of Mexico and Patrick Hausding of Germany in the semifinal. Also diving on Friday will be former A&M NCAA Champion Jaele Patrick, who will see action in the prelims of the women’s three-meter dive.
The swimming portion of the World Championships starts on Sunday and Texas A&M is well-represented by several current, future and former Aggie swimmers. From the current roster are Breeja Larson and Cammile Adams on Team USA, and Erica Dittmer and Lili Ibanez representing Mexico. Incoming freshman Sycerika McMahon is a member of Ireland’s national team, and former A&M All-Americans Alia Atkinson and Rita Medrano will represent Jamaica and Mexico, respectively.
Texas A&M is also represented in Barcelona by both members of the women’s swimming coaching staff – head coach Steve Bultman is with Team USA, while Tanica Jamison is an assistant with Mexico.
