COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M equestrian senior Amanda Brightwell represents the Aggies on the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Community Service Team, the league office announced.

Brightwell (San Antonio, Texas) joins Auburn’s Coryn Bergenty, Georgia’s Kelsey Thatcher and South Carolina’s Alison Ceresani on the team. The SEC names a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to her community through superior service efforts.

The senior horsemanship rider balances a competitive team schedule with several different community service and volunteer opportunities. Brightwell is the Programs Chair of the A&M Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and has volunteered in the Aggies CAN food drive, worked with underprivileged children in the equine program at Still Creek Ranch, helped outfit local second-graders with bicycle helmets through Hard Hats for Little Heads, and given back to the Bryan/College Station community via Big Event.

Brightwell’s willingness to give back is added to her prowess in the arena and in the classroom. The 2012-13 team captain earned NCEA Honorable Mention All-America honors and was the team’s 2011 Rookie of the Year. This year, Brightwell was 6-6 in competitions and racked up four wins against top-10 opponents, including three conference meets. She is a two-time NCEA First-Team Academic All-American and a two-time member of the Academic All-Big 12 First Team.

The Aggies travel to Waco to defend a pair of national titles at the NCEA Championships, April 18-20. The sixth-seeded western squad will face Fresno State in the first round, while the No. 10 hunter seat team will take on Oklahoma State.
