Texas A&M Women's Basketball Head Coach Gary Blair
Regarding Alexia Standish leaving the team:
"Sometimes the unexpected happens. I was recruiting in Houston on Thursday. I got a message that she wanted to meet with me on Friday. It's not that she wants to go a different direction; she's lost passion for the game. It's something that pains me deeply. Sometimes kids are different with what their wants are and what their needs are. I hope Lexi finds what she wants to do. It hurt me personally. I've never lost a player in 28 years. I've never lost a starter in my life. She was my recruit. I believed in what she could do. She's been playing with pain. She's been doing a good job on and off the court with the price that you've got to pay to contribute. I wish her well. Hopefully, it's not the end of basketball for her. She loves A&M. I wish her the best and hope she finds happiness. We will definitely miss her."
On Louisiana Tech:
"They've played five close ball games. They went 0-3 then they won their last two. What we need to do is worry more about Texas A&M. We need to be more consistent in our play. We have flashes of players playing very well. We need to find out who our go-to players are and make sure they have the ball a little bit more. Bellock is going to have to learn how to be more physical at the four position."
On finding a player to play the three position:
"Nobody is shooting higher than 30% out of that position. We've played six ball games and three of them were against top-10 teams. They've got to get into the flow. They need to learn how to score easier. All of them are standing around watching too much. They need to move around and create their shot."
On the TCU time change:
"The game against TCU will be at 3 p.m. I'm not going to compete with Johnny Football. It's easier to go home on a Saturday afternoon than a Saturday night. It's a great time to be an Aggie right now. Let's just keep this thing going."
