The Aggie football team has one of the most spacious locker room and athletic training facilities found anywhere in the country.
Moving into the new Bright Football Complex and Academic Center prior to the 2003 season, the Aggies now call one of the nation's premier football and academic complexes "home."
Housing the locker room, athletic training room, rehabilitation complex, meeting rooms, coaches offices, players' lounge and academics under one roof, A&M football players will be conveniently located close to all kinds of student-athlete support at the south end of Kyle Field.
The complex is named for Harvey "Bum" Bright '43, a former chairman of the Texas A&M Board of Regents and former owner of the Dallas Cowboys.
The Aggies' locker room is one of the largest in the country with more than 130 solid oak lockers outlining the room.
Plenty of space is available in the lockers to keep the athletes' equipment. Space is available for their custom-fitted Douglas shoulder pads and Riddell helmets. Aggie football players also keep their wide assortment of Adidas clothing in the lockers.
Each locker has a built-in storage area for the player's numerous pairs of Adidas shoes. There are individual lock boxes for valuables and a built-in cabinet located above each locker to aid the equipment staff in keeping exact sizes of apparel for each player in stock.
Adjacent to the locker room is a 10,000-square-foot equipment room which is more than six times larger than the previous facility on the west side of Kyle Field.
One of the benefits of the area is a shoe room nicknamed "Footlocker" which houses approximately 2,000 pairs of Adidas Shoes.
The staff also has an equipment issue area and a laundry facility adjacent to the locker room. Just outside the equipment area is a loading dock able to accommodate the Aggies' custom-made 53-foot 18-wheeler provided by Garrett North America.
Located just a few feet away from the dressing room is the athletic training room, meeting rooms and coaches dressing rooms.
The athletic training room is one of the largest and best equipped that today's student-athletes will find. With 15,000 square feet of space, the new athletic training room is more than four times larger than the previous facility on the west side of Kyle Field.
There are separate areas for treatment, taping and rehabilitation. Student-athletes will also find other features in-house like two doctor's offices, a conference room, full x-ray system with a processing room, and two walk-in whirlpools.
The spacious training room and large staff, led by Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Therapy Karl Kapchinski, allows the student-athletes quick assistance in their preventative care and in their rehabilitation efforts.
All of the latest treatment modalities are on hand as well as a staff of team physicians who are always on call and attend a great deal of the practices, as well as the games.
The men's athletic training staff is comprised of four licensed athletic trainers whose offices are located in the training room allowing easier access by the student-athletes.
Also located in the Bright Football Complex is a rehabilitation center where student-athletes can obtain top care using some of the newest technology and techniques available, including a Hydroworx 2000 Aquatic Rehab pool, to help them get back to the playing field quicker. Danny Kniffin, who is also a licensed athletic trainer, serves as the rehabilitation coordinator for the Aggies.
Having everything located in one convenient location allows the A&M student-athletes to make the most of their time.
Players and coaches will also benefit from the state-of-the-art all-digital video meeting rooms located just steps from the dressing room. The area provides a large metting area for the entire team and also private meeting rooms for each position coach to review video with his players. The facility will have 28 digital coaches stations creating a tape-less environment for reviewing game film. Each station will accompany a 60-inch plasma monitor to aid the viewing.
The football coaching staff's dressing room and offices are located in the facility, along with the offices of the equipment, training and video staffs.
